Fighting for Positive Change

I Will Fight For:

·                 Affordable education

·                 No tolling of I-80 in the future.

·                 Reexamining the deregulation on electricity.

·                 Proper funding and management of money for roads and bridges

·                 Economic development and jobs.

·                 Tax relief and the reduction of personal income tax.

·                 Smaller government and to reduce wasteful spending in government.

Affordable education

An education will increase your earning power. Those students who desire an education should have one. My plan for tax relief and the reduction of earned income tax will help families save for college. Working families have been paying more and more state earned income tax over the years.  I will work to reduce taxes so that families will have more disposable income. This strategy will also help to stimulate the sluggish economy.

I will also work to keep student loan interest rates low so students can afford to get an education. I will work to provide low-income families with the opportunity to apply for grants and loans to help with their child’s education. I will support funding for those grants.

Prevent tolling of I-80: The tolling of I-80 was rejected.

Tolling would have the most devastating impact on every resident, on every existing business, and on the growth and development of the 76th District.

Reexamining the deregulation of the rate caps on electricity.

Our legislator voted to deregulate the rate cap on electricity. Electric bills are going up 30%-50% in 2010 and could skyrocket to as much as 63%. Households can expect to pay as much as $500 or more a year. Our citizens cannot afford to pay these unreasonable prices. Over sixty percent of the families in our district are raising children on an average salary of $31,000, and over 30 % of our citizens are retired on fixed incomes of $26,000. Over 6,500 citizens in the 76th District are living in poverty. There will be personal hardships; many people will require public assistance.

Proper funding and management of money for roads and bridges.

Funding for our roads and bridges should come from existing tax revenues. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is too large and is run inefficiently. The problem is not a lack of revenue but rather the inefficient and improper use of revenue. The State Legislators must stop using highway funds for mass transit and other non-highway related issues and come up with a plan to fix our roadways and bridges.

Economic development and jobs.

Our state ranks 43rd in economic development. The last forum I attended; our legislator said,” our district is fine in economic development.”  I believe that we need new industry to come into our district. Corporate taxes in PA are one of the highest in the nation, so I support the reduction of corporate taxes to help to encourage businesses to establish in our area. I support tax incentives to businesses that expand and create new jobs. Creating jobs and implementing tax cuts should help to stimulate the sluggish economy and stimulate growth in our district.

Reduction of personal income tax

You have been paying more and more taxes on earned income over the years. It is time to reduce income tax so that you have more money in your paycheck. Income tax reduction will also help to stimulate the slowing economy.

Smaller government

Our state government is growing faster than the income of our taxpaying residents. In the last 18 years, our state government has increased by 300%.  The government has taxed just about everything imaginable. Our economy is extremely sluggish, and our residents are struggling to manage their homes and budgets. It is time for the state government to begin to live within its means.

Reduction of wasteful spending

We must create stricter regulations on non-competitive bidding by our government. Over one billion dollars has been spent on non-competitive bidding contracts. Taxpayers’ money can be saved if these contracts were offered for competitive bidding. Imagine just a 5% savings. It would amount to millions being saved. The savings could be given back to the taxpayers, used to fix bridges and roads or used in other needed areas. If you agree that we need to stop wasteful spending in Harrisburg, please sign my petition.

Other issues that I will fight for:

·         Affordable rural healthcare.

·         Protection of the Second Amendment Rights. (Gun rights)

·         Reviewing PA departments and programs for effectiveness, efficiency, and necessity.

·         Protection and improvement of our air and water resources.

·         Natural gas exploration, reprocessed coal, and use of water, wind, and sun for energy.

·         Zero tolerance for sex crimes.

Ending remarks

As a life-long district resident, I am familiar with the communities, the people, the hunting and farming traditions, the industry, and the tremendous potential for growth and development in our region. I am running for State Representative because I am concerned and genuinely care about the problems facing our people and communities. I would like to work in your behalf and apply my personal and professional experience and leadership skills to work constructively and diligently to make positive changes. I have the time, energy, and commitment to make the difference.

I have more than 15 years in public service, and I would like to put my experience and leadership skills to work for the people of the 76th District. There is a great deal to be accomplished, but change cannot take place without your support and your vote. Vote for CHANGE IN 2008 in the November election.
